Delmar Fire Dept responded for a service call involving 10 ducklings in a storm drain. Initially in sight beneath the grate, the ducklings quickly retreated approximately 8 feet into a pipe. Delmar volunteer firefighters accepted their challenge and through a variety of techniques and using different Fire and EMS equipment, eventually retrieved all 10. The first 4 were lured out using a YouTube video of a mother duck calling for ducklings. This brought the group right to the edge of the pipe. Banging a halligan bar against the opposite end of the pipe further up the street encouraged 4 to swim out into the open and they were collected. The others retreated again. The remaining 6 were gently flushed out using a 1 3/4" hose line off Truck 74 from the opposite end of the pipe.
