Passing of Life Member "Poppa Jack" Morris

DELMAR John I. Morris, Sr., “Poppa Jack”, 83, died Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. -

He was born May 27, 1933 in Willards, a son of the late Lee Morris and Ruth Penuel Morris Hastings. He lived in Delmar, DE. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Walker Morris, son, Kevin Morris and brother, Robert Morris.
Jack and Shirley were married on April 3, 1953 by Reverend J.W. Townsend. He is survived by his children, Jack and Debbie Morris, Garry and Linda Morris of Delmar, DE and Becky and Walt Barb of Mathias, West Virginia; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, aunts and several nieces and nephews.
Jack loved to visit and fish the Outer Banks of North Carolina, visit his daughter and family in Mathias, West Virginia and take trips to the Amish Country in Pennsylvania. He proudly loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. He loved to join his “Hardees Breakfast Club” group and solve all the world’s problems.
Jack was a lifetime member with 51 years of service with the Delmar Fire Department, where he served as president, engineer, chief driver, and still active on numerous committees. He was also a member of the Wicomico County Fire Police Association. Jack was past president of the Wicomico County Fireman’s Association, served on the board of directors of the Wicomico County Fireman’s Association and was a past member of the Sharptown Fire Department. He loved to attend to the Maryland and Delaware Fireman’s Conventions and taking old #3 -1948 Mack fire engine to the parades throughout the Delmarva region. 
Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953- 1955 in the 101st Airborne unit. He retired from Henson Aviation and after retirement worked as a security guard at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and parts delivery with Federated Auto Parts. He enjoyed sitting in the back row at Melson’s United Methodist Church and loved to sing the hymns.
A fireman’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00. Interment will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Delmar.
